I am a PhD researcher in Geography and Museum Studies at King’s College London, co-supervised by the Museum of Cambridge. My work currently looks at the relationship between weather, heritage, and museum collections, specifically in the context of peatland landscapes.

2023-present. Books ‘n’ Bogs.

Books ‘n’ Bogs is an ongoing partnership between RE-PEAT and Abbeyleix library, working to exhibit residents’ stories of and relationship with their local bogs.

The project draws upon creative methods, including:

  • Exhibiting personal stories relating to bogs in the Abbeyleix library, through curated audio recordings and photographs.
    • One-on-one interviews with community members to understand individual histories and relationships with peatlands
    • Group photo elicitation workshops with local artists Tina Claffey and Alison McEvoy to foster collective storytelling and imagining
  • Creation of a podcast and video series based on the gathered personal stories to be shared online and through library networks
  • Running a children’s storytelling contest and collating a section of stories in a book, to be stocked and circulated in the Laois libraries’ network
  • Showcase of Irish literature relating to peatlands in the Laois libraries, including procurement of new materials

The workshops and interviews, bringing together local residents of various backgrounds, provided an open space for shared remembering, celebration and discussion of Irish peatlands.

Books ‘n’ Bogs was generously funded by the European Cultural Foundation through the Europe Challenge, as well as the Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme.
